Initial Consultation & Site Evaluation
We discuss your goals, pool type, property layout, access, drainage, desired features and overall backyard budget. Site conditions and local zoning requirements help shape a realistic plan.
From the first rendering to the first swim, understand what happens at every stage—and how YardLife brings the entire backyard together.
Every property and pool system is different. The sequence below is a typical overview, not a fixed construction schedule; some activities overlap or change order based on inspections, weather, site conditions and municipal requirements.

We develop the pool concept and coordinate the surrounding patio, fencing, landscaping and lighting. Renderings help visualize the design; a defined scope and budget guide decisions.
A current survey, zoning review and applicable construction plans are assembled. Permits and approvals are obtained as required by the municipality before regulated work begins.
The pool location and elevations are established. Access, utility locations, soil handling and material deliveries are coordinated before excavation.
The pool is excavated to the approved dimensions. Soil conditions, groundwater, drainage and stone base requirements are addressed based on the design and site conditions.
Vinyl-liner pools typically receive wall panels, bracing, a concrete collar and a finished floor; fiberglass shells are set and leveled on an engineered base; gunite pools use reinforced steel and pneumatically applied concrete. Methods vary by pool system.
Pool plumbing, drains, skimmers, returns, equipment connections and electrical work are installed. Required bonding, grounding and applicable safety provisions are completed by qualified trades.
Required municipal inspections occur at the appropriate construction stages. Depending on the pool and jurisdiction, these may include structural, collar, plumbing pressure, electrical trench/bonding, gas and final inspections. Work is covered only after required approvals.
After applicable approvals, the pool perimeter is backfilled and prepared for coping, pavers, architectural concrete or traditional concrete. Drainage and finished elevations are coordinated with the yard.
Required barriers and gates, low-voltage lighting, planting, irrigation adjustments and other backyard features are installed and coordinated with the overall design.
Vinyl liners, fiberglass finishing requirements or gunite interior finishes are completed as applicable. The pool is filled, circulation equipment is started, and water chemistry is balanced.
Final approvals, safety checks, equipment orientation and punch-list items are addressed. The homeowner receives an overview of operation and maintenance before project closeout.
Structural methods and finishing sequences differ across vinyl-liner, fiberglass and gunite pools. YardLife helps homeowners understand these choices while planning decking, lighting, fencing and landscaping around the selected pool.
Our boutique approach emphasizes one-on-one communication, design renderings, clearly defined scope, coordinated trades, budget oversight and milestone tracking—led by PMP-certified project management.
Our Project Management Approach →Permit review and inspection availability, weather, access, unexpected soil or groundwater conditions, material lead times and homeowner changes can affect the schedule. We focus on communicating these dependencies and coordinating work as the project progresses.
Construction requirements and inspection sequencing vary by municipality, pool type and approved plans. Your local building department and licensed trades determine applicable requirements.
